What to Consider when Choosing YOUR Perfect Hardwood

  1. What level of the home will the wood be placed in?  Basements or anything below ground level will need to use engineered wood, a 100% natural wood that is sliced thinly into several cross sections and laid at a 90-degree angle from the previous piece.  This ensures that once the wood is placed, it won’t expand and contract with changes in moisture associated with basements and spaces below ground level.

  2. What type of wear do you want to see on your floor?  Some woods are very soft, making them prone to dents and scratches.  Choose a harder wood if you want something more resistant to animal nails, stiletto heels, and general wear and tear.
  3. What type of wood construction best suits your tastes?  There are generally four types to choose from: 3/4” solid hardwood (unfinished or pre-finished), engineered wood (unfinished or pre-finished), long strip wood planks (pre-finished) or parquet tiles.
